Tasca D′Almerita
Magazine: November 2007

For over a century the Tasca family has put its name to excellent quality wines for the finest of palates. In 1830, Don Lucio and his brother Carmelo bought the ex Regalali domain, almost 1200 hectares in the Sclafani Bagni countryside between Palermo and Caltanisetta. The Tasca family instantly became excellent entrepreneurs and researchers of excellent quality. The Tasca family today continue the work of their ancestors. Count Lucio is aided by his sons Giuseppe and Alberto. The company, in the Regaleali district, is in a prefect position for wine production, with an altitude of between 450 and 700 mts above sea level. Wines that make Sicilian wine history were born on these hills: “Rosso del Conte”, “Nozze d’Oro”, etc, quality products that have great success in national and international competitions. A cellar with ultra modern equipment, barrique storage of 3.800 hectolitres, and a 15 million euro. etturnover: the fi gures of the biggest family run company in Sicily. The company, with its sun and lion emblems, is not concentrated only in the hills of Sclafani Bagni, but is in continuous expansion. It has recently purchased land and a vineyard in Salina, in the Aeolian Islands, that was immediately transformed into a Wine Resort, cultivating the precious Malvasia grapes for an elitist consumer, with its distinctive fl avour and bouquet. Another recent initiative was the purchase of a company on Etna in the Comune of Castiglione di Sicilia, where 5 and a half hectares of cultivated vineyards with autochthonous vines already existed. A Sicilian cellar that has become an icon of the enological industry made in Sicily, the forerunner of innovation and modernisation of the sector that has remained ever faithful to tradition.
