Mazzolada, the Last Tocai wine
Magazine: September 2007
“The Last Tocai” is a sentimental name for an extraordinary wine, born in one of the most famous Italian wine growing areas. Lison Pramaggiore is situated in the north east part of Veneto, in the foothills of the Alps, between the Livenza and Tagliamento rivers, and is the perfect territory for cultivating vines due to its temperate climate and limestone-clay earth. “With The Last Tocai”, says Renato Genovese, president of Mazzolada, “we wanted to create a special wine bearing witness to the history of this special vine”. Tocai is synonymous with the aperitif par excellence, but is also a very versatile vine able to produce both young and fruity wines, and full-bodied wines for ageing too. These features are well represented in “The Last Tocai”, where the grapes are picked by hand and lightly over-ripened, giving substance and body to a wine that is easy to drink but evolved and complex at the same time.
