tuglie (LE)
Magazine: March 2008

Wine cellar open all year: 7.30-15.00.
Visits can be booked on request.

Founded in 1927 in Tuglie, the heart of the Salento region; a land that, thanks to the sunny exposure and excellent climate conditions, was by nature suited t o the growth of the typical Puglia vines. With their sights set high, the company focused on the worth of autochthonous vines like Primitivo and Negroamaro and on the maintenance of procedures closely tied to ancient traditions. A strong point is also the constant update and research of new scientific methods, orientated towards the use of natural quality and some characteristic thriving production, typical of the most well loved vines from Puglia. The company scrupulously follows the traditions that have been passed on through generations like those of the production of Muscat Reale or rosé.

L′ASTORE MASSERIA
Via G. Di Vittorio, 1 73020 Cutrofiano (Le) - Cutrofiano (LE)
Magazine: November 2007

Innovation refi nes tradition. That is the philosophy of L’ASTORE estate. Ancient roots, skilful use of the most modern cultivation and wine-making techniques, focus on quality. Luca Benegiamo and his brothers, with the assistance of the oenologist Riccardo Cotarella, are carrying out this ambitious project with success. L’Astore was one of the fi rst “masserie”, the typical agricultural estates of Salento, to be saved from a state of utter neglect with a loving restoration campaign. The beauty of the underground cellar built in the typical architectural style of Salento with star shaped vaults has caused many visitors to say it is one of the most charming wine cellars in Italy. Next to it, an impressive olive oil pressing hall built in the 1700s. L’Astore Salento IGT red, blend of Aglianico and Petit Verdot, is the top wine. Two other reds are produced namely : Argentieri Salento IGT red, blend of Negroamaro and Cabernet Sauvignon and Filimei Salento IGT red, blend of Negroamaro, Primitivo and Merlot. The white Krita Salento IGT is a blend of Chardonnay and Malvasia Bianca. MASSARO ROSA Salento IGT, the rosé, was the winner of the ROSALENTO 2006 Prize.
