Old and new Krakow
In viaggio Magazine: April 2008
Many remember it as the city linked to the late Pope Wojtyla but, as yet, there are very few Italians who have visited Krakow, ancient city on the banks of the river Vistola in the southern area of Lesser Poland. Many visitors would be amazed to discover that its ancient centre is also one of the largest ‘playgrounds’ in Europe. In the characteristic gothic cellars, pubs and discos have been carved out and the liveliest locations are around the magical Main Market Square dominated by the Sukiennice Cloth Hall or in Jewish quarters of Kazimierz. Like, for example, ‘U Louisa’, gothic cellar for jazz fans which also hosts exhibitions and cultural events.
