Mediterranean Easter
In viaggio Magazine: March 2008
There are 365 churches on Malta and the archipelago islands. The devout Catholic Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre keeps religious tradition alive during the Easter period. The “seven visits” will take place on Holy Thursday in 7 different churches to honour the consecrated hosts, while churches will be “adorned” in red, symbolising the blood of Christ. The procession is held on Easter with the statue of Christ Risen and the celebration wraps up with a sumptuous lunch. Desserts are the highlights, like the “cerchi degli Apostoli” with sesame seeds and almonds.
