Expanses of white sand and a crystalline sea, an arid red land that stretches into infi nity. This is Fuerteventura, free and uncontaminated. Freedom is in the air, the waves, the earth and the landscape, unchangeable but never monotonous. The capital is Puerto del Rosario, not a location of any great interest. The urban centres in Fuerteventura are unpretentious. And if in the interior it is easy come upon windmills or cultivations of aloe vera, it is the south that captivates with its marvellous Playa de Sotavento de Jandìa and Playa de Barlovento de Jandìa. The west coast is the most attractive. In Corralejo it is worth visiting the Nature Park taking the ferry to Lanzarote, offi cial biosphere reserve.
