Bucolic landscapes
Nel verde Magazine: March 2008
An immense valley floor framed by cultivated slopes. A tender green hue paints the hills. A grey cloak of beech wood and…. in the distance, the snow capped peaks of the Apennines of Abruzzo. This is a snapshot of the Comino valley; oasis of tranquillity near Frosinone. Approaching for the first time, one admires the immenseness of the basin, formed due to glacier erosion. Dwell a while in the miniscule, medieval towns, Atina, Broccostella, Vicalvi, embedded into the highlands of the valley. Atina holds precious treasures in its alleys, like the 11th C. B.C. statue placed at the entrance of Palazzo Ducale. This tiny hamlet is famous for its production of prominent wines. Tasting the local cuisine one rediscovers the authentic and genuine flavours of dishes that are an intrinsic part of the charm of these localities.
