Masseria: a Latin name meaning an inaccessible fort.
The walls of the masseria San Domenico, that dominates the Adriatic coastline between Bari e Brindisi, were constructed in the 15th Century by the Knights of Malta. These constructions are the mainstay of the Pugliese coastline, recently transformed in nature reserves or in exclusive holiday villages. The Masseria San Domenico is a tourist resort considered one of the most beautiful small hotels in the world. The façade is stunning, its white colour refl ects on the shimmering blue sea and the accompanying 18 hole golf course. The rooms are superb: exclusive: four poster, wrought iron beds, precious, gold threaded tapestries in typical Mediterranean colours, and breathtaking panoramic views. The two restaurants offer traditional a la carte cuisine with ingredients sourced from the local land and sea.
