Its native country is Spain.

The brandy born in this area derives from the word “brand” that means “burnt” a direct reference to the process of distillation. Obtained by distilling fruit, it is traditionally served as an after dinner drink. As legend has it, the distilled liquid possessed marked medicinal properties, and was originally passed off as a sedative. The evidence of the facts makes one think that brandy originated in Jerez de la Frontera, because here it had been drunk in past eras thanks to the predominance of the Arab population who were already familiar with the method of vine distillation. Only later, fi rst in Italy and then in France, it also began to be produced in other nations such as Germany, Mexico, Portugal, America and even China and South Africa. As well as brandy produced from grapes there were other products made from the fruit these were favourites with everyone: apricot and cherry brandies.
