Imagine a terrain that is a mix of clay and and marnic rock; always exposed to the sun, with a 10° temperature difference between day and night. “A perfect area for cultivating vines” thought Giovanni Rui, an entrepreneur from Veneto smitten by Prosecco. In 1998 he purchased the Rolle estate at Cison di Valmarino, in the province of Treviso. In 2001, Rui realised that his love for this wine could fi nd an outlet and decided to invest in the company. He built cellars which became the “foundation stones” of the Vigne Matte winery. The cellars are equipped with all modern technologies. For centuries, the rows of wines have dominated these hills: at the bottom of the slopes they are all neatly in order, but as they reach the village they begin to look untidy: it is from this characteristic the name Vigne Matte (Crazy vines) is derived.

Raising a glass to elegant wines
The production is mainly Prosecco Doc but also the red wines show themselves to be particularly suited to the characteristics of the area. The prosecco wines are available in 5 variations. Brut and Extra Dry, with elegant fl avors, are great for an aperitif. For a glass to be sipped between meals Ville Matte suggests Millesimatte, which also exhilarates the palate if tasted with seafood; Rollino is perfect with raw vegetable dips; Tranquillo exalts the fl avours of vegetable and fi sh dishes. The Vigne Matte assets go way beyond Prosecco: fi ve hectares of vines are dedicated to reds: Rugai, with a bouquet which recalls summer fruit jams and Merlot, which emanates a fl avour of cherries with hints of cinnamon. To fi nish of the offer from the company with a fl ourish… 500 bottles of Prosecco passito, with an intense aroma of exotic fruits.
