The Bowmore Distillery, started by local businessman, David Simpson is the oldest on Islay Island. Like a real pioneer he built the distillery, began distilling whiskey and then introduced it to the world. James Mutter then took over the running of the distillery, expanding it. The successive owners were quite capable in maintaining the traditional basis for malting and methods in producing whiskey. The distillery is located on the shores of Loch Indaal, on Islay (Hebrides Islands). Close proximity to the Atlantic Ocean is fundamental in shaping the final characteristics of Bowmore Islay Single Malt Scotch Whiskey products. The Bowmore distillery vaults are damp, cool environments, ideal conditions for ageing the Whiskey. The distillery has five cottages available for holiday rental.
