Between symbol and dream

Real life is dreamed. The realism of facts and the conceptual stylisation of symbols. Joan Miró: a visionary who threw himself into the surrealistic adventure, but also a traditionalist who painted the “calligraphy of a tree, leaf by leaf”. The exhibition “Miró: the earth”, in Ferrara, is based on the role played by the terrestrial elements in the artistic parable of the Catalan painter. Paintings created between 1918 and 1921 open the show. Look carefully because in these country people with almost cubist shapes, it is difficult to recognise the mythical Miró of the following years. In fact, even while remaining faithful to his central themes -the rural world, the mysteries of life and death - Miró abandoned the world of shapes and heightened the oneiric dimension, creating a space filled with incomprehensible graphic signs and archetypal figures.
